So I live in a shitty apartment and the only source of air conditioning is a wall unit that's 20 feet away from the bedroom. Regardless of what temperature the AC unit is set to (we've even tried setting it to 60 degrees), the bedroom is consistently very hot at night, usually 76-80 at the coolest part of the day while the living room is much cooler.
Floor plan image, approximately 575 sq ft according to the manager. The kitchen is not walled off, there is a slightly taller than counter height bar that sections it off from the living room.
What we have done so far:
- Pedestal fan in the bedroom doorway to pull in cool air - we also turn on the fan several hours before bed and turn the AC down to help it cool off
- Avoiding using the oven
- Keeping bathroom door closed as much as possible
- Thermal/blackout curtains on all windows, double layered
- Foam around AC unit to keep out heat
- No furniture in the way, clear 4-foot path all the way to the bedroom
The AC unit is a Frigidaire FFTH1222R2 and it was new when we moved in. I don't know if this is something an HVAC expert can help with but I would surely appreciate any advice. We have a ceiling fan in the living room and in the bedroom. We have not been using the living room one because it seemed like it was just throwing the cold air around the living room and preventing it from reaching the bedroom.
Also, FWIW, we cannot open the windows in this apartment. There are no screens for the windows and there is a major wasp problem here. :(
