I'm a 2nd year apprentice and my boss purchased a set of gauges for me and we're used by another tradesmen and whoever had used them fiddled with it.
The hook attachment (for hanging/storing) is screwed in and when this person had decided to manipulate the hook. After trying for a while and wearing out my patience, I took a close inspection and saw the damaged thread. The nut/bolt will only screw just under one whole rotation but with "pop" out if the hook is touched or pulled leaving the hook useless and in the way.
Not sure if other technicians know of a solution. I was thinking something along the lines of a two part epoxy. But would rather hearing others opinions first before I do something wild. After all, I'm only an apprentice and that's what we do haha
