So I have an old 2.5 ton R22 central air unit outside my house. It has been leaking freon and I have had to replace the freon once every 2-3 years for maybe the past 6 years or so. I am probably running out soon. With the of R22 going up I was thinking of just updating the system. I have a few questions. If I just replace the outside unit will it still leak freon? I have no experience so I am going to need someone to install it. Can I just buy my own unit online somewhere? Or even from a big box store and then just get someone to install it?
I am pretty short on cash so the cheapest option would be best. What do you guys think?
