I was able to remove the outer shell, and found the condenser coil very easy to clean with a soft brush and hot water.
The Evaporator coil seemed trapped by the fan housing, and I didn't see which screws would set it free. I was also concerned about bending or kinking any part of the coil by removing more than I should have. I've seen a few videos online of people spraying down the unit with a garden hose, but I'm worried I'll get the electronics wet.
TL:DR, is it safe to use a hose to clean the evaporator coil in a window unit? How do you avoid getting the electronics wet?
