At a home today where the homeowner said they've been having ongoing issues with dust since the home was built approx. 7 years ago. Decent sized house with furnace in the basement and two returns that have EAC's on each return with pre-pre filters before EAC's that were installed later to hopefully combat the dust. However the pleated filters and the EACS were, by my account, very clean... even after not being changed for about three months. You would think the dust would migrate to the returns and through the filters and there would be something to show for...but evidently not in this case.
Looking at some of the surfaces in the house where the dust settles, the dust appears to be white, like what you would expect to see when sheetrock is being hung.
After poking around, I didn't really know what to tell the customer as it didn't make sense to me. But after thinking about I wanna think it may be from bad sheetrock (if there is such a thing) that is slowly deteriorating somewhere it is unfinished Given that sheetrock is made from gypsum then maybe some of the particles aren't lite enough to be picked up in the return air and through the filters. Merely guessing though.
Wondering if anyone has seen this type of situation before.
