My AC company did their semi-annual inspection today. For the first time in 4 years they brought a Microbiological Screening kit. Long story short, the tests came back with a positive result for microbes (purple). They want to provide a distribution cleaning, which I am told is a little more comprehensive than a simple duct cleaning. They also recommend installing UV lights in the units to proactively kill off any mold/microbes.
Please shed some light on this for me, since this is the first time in 15+ years of home ownership that I've come across this test. Am I being sold snake oil, or is there a legitimate issue that should be addressed. I don't have any distrust for this company, I'm just unsure if this is a necessary expense.
