I called a HVAC company yesterday cause the breaker for the Heat Pump was off and wouldn't stay on. He came by ($50 fee after coupon which seemed good?) and said that the compressor is fried, and that the unit is old - which it is, was installed in 1995 - and it would be worth it to upgrade since the repairs could cost around $2000.
I have all Electric now and I'm in Ohio. I've been thinking of switching over to gas in the next couple years, but I think I have to make that decision sooner rather than later. My current electric bills are insane -- like $400 - $600 every month of winter, $300 in Spring, and $150 in the summer.
The tech said it'd cost like $5000-$6000 for a new system. The owner of the company is coming in a couple of hours - they are Lennox and Tempstar dealers. I've never used these guys before as this is my first home as of 2 years ago and never needed a company before. I know literally NOTHING about HVAC and I don't want to get screwed over. What should I be looking for in a HVAC company and HVAC unit? What type of questions should I ask the HVAC rep? Looking for any useful advice!
