Options to temporarily get through the summer

Hi all! New to reddit, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

I live in NY, and as it's basically June now it's getting increasingly hot and humid. I plan on moving out of my parents' house in the fall, but as of now I'm pretty much trying to make do to get through the summer with some sort of temporary solution.

I don't have an AC in my room. My room is about 100~150 square feet. I have one decent sized window and we have some trees in our front yard. Last year I spent most of the summer sleeping on the computer room floor, since that's the only room (aside the living room) in the house with a working AC. I don't want to do that this year since:

  1. I'm paranoid that there are house centipedes in that room.
  2. The AC is old/dusty/dirty and looks like it belongs in the 1920's.
  3. I don't have a bed.

I was looking into portable AC's at first, but a friend brought up that since my house is really old, it's possible that the AC will make my circuit breakers trip. I do recall that happening once when we had several lights on and I decided to use the microwave, so I can't rule out that possibility.

I tried using a fan before, but the feeling of the gusty air makes it difficult for me to sleep at night, so not sure how that'll work out. On the really hot nights it doesn't help, since it just blows warm air around. Also it doesn't really fix the problem of the humidity.

Is the combination of a small dehumidifier+fan a viable option?

Since I'm moving out eventually, I'm looking for something cheap & temporary. What are some options for me? Are there options at all? Do I sound crazy? Admittedly I know nothing about this, so I can't tell if I sound nuts.

Thanks/sorry in advance.
