Our R-22 unit leaks, it is unknown if the compressor is affected at this time. We were told by our tech that "it could cost up to $1,000" to repair the leak, and more $ if the compressor was impacted by the loss of freon (can't be determined yet). Other option is to replace the whole unit which will cost about $7K. I understand the cost of R22 freon is on the rise especially by the year 2020, however this is the one and only problem since 1992 that we ever had with this unit.
Granted $7K is a lot for us to swallow, how much of a gamble, if any, am I taking by just paying $1,000 to get the existing unit repaired?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
