I'm currently on oil heat (no AC), my furnace needs replaced. My latest estimate was pushing hard for a switch to a heat pump system with an electric furnace backup.
How do these setups perform?
The salesman claimed 2-3x efficiency over a standard electric furnace setup, is that realistic?
My home is old, poorly insulated, and drafty. How do heat pumps hold up in these conditions? My oil furnace ran pretty much constantly if the temperature went below 20F.
How does a heat pump compare to standard AC? Is one cheaper to operate?
I'm in Ohio, near Akron. I have a new electric panel and 200 amp service. I plan to live in this home for 10 years. Electricity is about 14c/KWh after all the fees.
