Is using an adjustable (e.g. register) vent on a return a bad idea?

Hey all,

Really quick question. My upper floor looks like this. I'm planning to add ceiling returns where shown (which tie in to the main return in the attic) as there is no circulation when the bedroom doors are closed since the return is in the hallway ceiling.

For the returns I add in the bedrooms - Can I use register vents so I can keep them open during cooling season and then close them to some degree so during winter only the cold air is sucked out under the doors during the winter months?
