Sorry if I don't have enough info, I'm not very good with knowing what to look for and possibly have my wording all messed up. Let me know if I'm missing anything... On the first of this month, we had a new Amana ASX16 installed at our 2550 square foot house (We were told it was the right size. I have no way of knowing.).

We have a current-model Vivant thermostat that controls everything.
It kicks on fine, but once on a schedule or on for a while (Seemingly over a half hour) the A/C will stay on forever and not shut off, even when well below the desired temperature. We can even shut cooling off altogether, and it will continue to run. We have to go down into the basement and shut off the breaker for the A/C, and then (Separately) the fan in the main unit in the basement. Once those are off, we can switch them back on and it stays off until the air is intended to kick in again, then the same dance happens all over again.
The installer has informed us that he will charge us for a service call to come and look at the problem. He came out once following the install when we called him to look at it, but the call amounted to him poking at the wires, saying it looks fine, and telling us to check again. It hasn't worked right since install.
Extra Info: When on for short bursts, most of the time, it will shut off okay. We do not have the same issue whatsoever with our central heater (Or didn't at least. We haven't tested it since the A/C install was done. Not sure if they'd impact each other or not.).
HELP!
