Should I replace my ac unit with a single stage or a 2 stage? And do these prices sound OK?

I am scheduled to replace my ac unit in 36 hrs. I will not be able to run anything as a 2 stage until I change my furnace, which is 20 years old, but alive and well. The total cost for the AC is : Amana ASX16 036 - $4400 Amana ASXC16 - $5000 I was quoted an additional $3800 to replace the furnace with a modulating variable speed furnace. There will be no savings to replace everything all at once, so I'd rather not do the furnace right now. I live in upstate NY, in a 2200 sf, 2 story house and am very "green". I plan to hook this up to a Nest thermostat.
