Why don't you see centrifugal blower being used as 'whole house fans'?

I have been searching for an appropriate whole house fan for my remodel, and am curious why its always the same fan-bladed type of air mover. I thought that a centrifugal-style blower would provide superior static pressure/CFM combo for moving the the air from the house to the attic (and thus, to the outside).

Does a centrifugal blower not perform well when there is significant resistance on the intake or something?
