3 spd HVAC motor replacing a single speed?

I have what appears to be an old GE single speed 115v 60hz 1075rpm 1/3hp single speed motor in my obsolete 1997 Consolidated HVAC system in my attic.

The bearings in the motor have been going out for the past year, and I came in last night to 83 degrees and no fan on. Went to attic and pulled the blower assembly and had two problems, squirrel cage blower wheel disc connecting to motor shaft has 100% separated from the squirrel wheel itself... and what I assume is still a motor with bearings going out.

I was able to locally source a motor replacement but it appears most motors are 3 spd now. Should I just plan to hook to the middle speed wire and cap it off the high and low? The replacement motor has identical specs to the older GE motor except for the variable speeds.

The squirrel wheel was some very odd size and impossible to find locally, it will be here by Tuesday. It is the same dual inlet but has about 1/8in or less different dimensions than the broken one. The new dimensions are well within the size of the blower housing. I don't anticipate any issues with the part fitting. But if I should worry, feel free to chime in.

Location: New Orleans Metro, Temp: Hot as hell
