Im from Alberta canada and moved into this house 2 years ago. Last year the AC (GUARDIAN GCGD42S41S4A) seemed fine, this year i noticed shitty airflow and when i looked outside i saw the main pipe coming straight out of the AC unit and going into furnace starts to ice up after about 20 mins. I called a HVAC company and a technician came out and diagnosed the unit. The following is the description he wrote on the bill. "I found the unit was a little low on refrigerant. also found a leak on the low side fitting and replaced it. The low side still freezed up so i took all the gas out and started charge fresh but the problem was still there. I also noticed that only half the valve up to the compressor freezes. tried to close and open valve to clear restriction . Looks like its working fine. Pressures good and getting good temp drop." So I paid 500 dollars for that call and it worked great for the night. The next morning i woke up and there was ice on the same pipe (same problem), so i called the company and asked whats going on. And the owner said that the air conditioner didnt look properly installed (I dont know who installed it, as it came with the house). This guy said the next step for him would be to change the suction service valve as it cold possibly have debris inside of the line...and thats whats causing the problem. He said something about putting a dryer on the suction to test for debris. Not sure if thats the exact term, as i just talked to him on the phone and he talked a lot. Anyways, he said it would be a 4 hour call out @$95 an hour + $50 callout fee+ $200 valve. He said he cant give any credit for work that was already done, because his tech did the best he could. I have no experience with the HVAC world, any advice on what the problem could be or if this is how service calls are handled. Thank you
