Hi, I recently moved into a two bedroom flat in Manchester, UK. There is no gas supply to the property, and 5 old Dimplex panel heaters (1.5 - 3 KW/H) affixed to the wall, that I would like to replace. I know there's a heatwave on, but thinking ahead to winter I would like some advice on heating... The energy efficiency rating of the flat (which has cavity wall insulation) is a high E, and the electricity bill prior to my moving in was £1,100 per year. I lived in a place before that had Economy 7 storage heaters, which was great. Unfortunately, here in the new flat we do not have a second circuit wired in, and most electricians I have contacted do not seem to know much about installing and wiring up E7 heaters. Electricians have recommended different brands of electric heaters to me: Rointe, Dimplex, etc... The prices seem to vary wildly, even though the input amount (1 - 2KW) is basically the same. I have been quoted, by various electric heating supplier companies, anything from £900 to £3000 for 3-4 electric heaters for my two bedroom flat. I would like to know, is it worth tracking down an electrician willing to wire up E7 storage heaters (including a 2nd circuit)? Most electricians seem hesitant to do this. Also, is there much difference between direct acting electric panel heaters, e.g. is a £200 heater much different from a £800 heater? Are there any brands that would reduce my electricity bill from £1,100, which seems much to high? I have been looking online, and all brands claim to be efficient and reduce costs etc... My budget for sorting out the heating (new heaters and installation) for winter is £2,000, and not sure what best course of action to take. Thanks in advance for any advice!
