Central unit stops blowing cold air, but starts blowing cold again after shutting down/restarting?

Just thought I'd see if anyone here could give me any insight before I call a repairman out. We live in the southern US, and it's been 90+ for the past month. I have my unit serviced & cleaned twice yearly, the last time was in May. No leaks or anything reported and was not low on freon.

3 times now in the last few weeks, the unit has stopped blowing cold. The fan keeps blowing and it sounds no different than usual. Each time, we've ended up turning the unit off at the thermostat, waiting about 10 minutes and starting it up again. Each time, it will start blowing cool a few minutes after restarting.

All ductwork looks fine, return is sucking air just fine, filters are new, and the coils are clean. Any ideas on what I can check myself before I call a professional?
