I posted this thread 4-5-6 weeks ago. The HVAC guy arrived while I was out, and She Who Must Be Obeyed was the only one here. The metallic clunk! the motor was making when it shut down went away after he swapped out the air filter.
I have no idea why this resolved the issue, as we change the filter every 30 days, and we've used air filters that offered much more resistance (in the past) without these issues.
But it's now been over a month, and no more clunking noises. But I'm getting a back-up motor just for good measure as the current one (one I had repaired) is making weird noises once again.
