Mold in drain line?

http://imgur.com/hIVYQLJ

We live in North Florida in a rental house. In the winter we barely used the HVAC unit because we had a mild winter. In the spring we started to smell a sour smell when we would first turn the air conditioning on. Now it is unbearable when you walk in the door it smells horrible. We told the landlord about the smell issue in the spring and he said that he would have someone out to clean the drain line and mention bleach. I started to Google about that to see if I could do it myself since he has not done anything yet. When I look at the unit on the inside of the house, the only pipe that I see is the one in the picture everything else is behind wood. It appears to me that the mold has gotten so bad that it's now growing on the outside of the PVC pipe. The landlord tends to do things himself or have a friend do work for him rather than hiring a company, which is fine. I told him today that I feel that an HVAC company should come out to clean the entire system as there's probably now mold in the vents as well. I have a 9 month old son and an asthmatic husband, should we not be using the system until they come out to fix it? Is there anything I should make sure that he does, if he does choose to do it himself? Just wanted to see what the general consensus is here since I am well out of my league here. Thank you!
