So, we've had two professionals out for a quote and their info is DRASTICALLY conflicting, as well as their pricing, so I'm hoping someone knowledgable can help clarify for me.
OUR NEED: We have 3rd story attic (750 sqft) and the 2nd story bdr (300 sqft) on the same side of the house and we'd like to cool both spaces with a mini split. The exterior portion of the mini split will be mounted on our 2nd story walk out porch. That means we'd have 1 exterior unit and 2 interior units (one on 3rd fl and one on 2nd fl). It seems straightforward... to me. We need cooling only.
FIRST GUY: Cooling only, yes I can install an exterior unit that will cool the 3rd story attic (750 sqft) and the 2nd story bdr (300 sqft). We'll need 1 exterior unit. The interior units can be mounted high or low (near the floor). Total cost: 4-5k.
SECOND GUY: I can install an exterior unit that will cool only HALF of 3rd story attic (that's 325 sqft of 750 sqft) and the 2nd story bdr (300 sqft). Interior units MUST be mounted high unless it's a unit specially made to be near the floor. For an exterior unit big enough to cool those two spaces, it actually needs to be a "heat+cool" unit. (They don't make cooling units to cool 2 spaces? (WTF?)) Total cost is 5-12k.
Does anyone have any insight on this? I'm not sure if person #1 is incompetent or if person #2 is trying to make a giant sale.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
