I've recently moved into a house in Atlanta, GA. The house was recently renovated with a brand new mechanical system put in, but the house was originally built in the 40s. We have been having an issue cooling the house this summer, and I am wondering what the main issue is.
I know the AC is functioning properly because we just had an AC guy come out with our landlord a few days ago. He fixed a refrigerant leak and charged it back up. The temp out of the vents is around 70 and the return at the time was around 85. Most nights we can't cool it down below 85 and when we wake up the coolest it gets to is around 77. I know the home is not well sealed because you can see sunlight out of specific places, but I'm wondering if the insulation (or lack thereof) is the main issue or if the AC unit is undersized for the home. I don't have the specifics on sq footage and tonnage of the unit right now. My estimate on sq footage is around 1000 sq ft.
