Original post: "First house, worried about the electric bill"
Well I was crawling around up in the attic, sweating my ass off trying to figure out why one of the coax ports wasn't working and while I was up there, the A/C kicked on. As I was crawling my way back out, I passed the A/C junction box and felt a pretty cool breeze. As refreshing as it felt, I knew that something was definitely wrong.
The top of the junction box had blown off and became seperated which was causing the A/C unit to blow most of the air out into the attic instead of the house. Bought a roll of HVAC tape and a can of Great Stuff and it was good to go.
There is a very noticeable difference in how much quicker the house cools down. The A/C also turns on less often, runs for shorter periods of time, and their is a greater volume of air coming from the vents.
As much as crawling around the attic sucked, I'm glad the cable was messed up because otherwise this problem could have gone unnoticed for a long time!
