My husband and I bought our home in January and live in Texas (not sure if excessive heat is relevant).
On Tuesday through Wednesday of last week our A/C died temporarily. We did find out that it was a charred relay and are getting that fixed Friday. But the next morning after our A/C started working on its own again, I witnessed this banging. This morning I've also figured out it comes from the ceiling above my cabinet I focus in on the first 2 videos. It happens every 10 or so minutes and comes in phases. For instance, we only heard it 3 times that Thursday morning (however after those 3 times, we promptly shut off our A/C), but today I've heard it probably about 8 times. And besides those 2 instances, we went almost a week with nothing--no banging.
We're at a loss. We asked our A/C repairman what he thought on Monday, but he just told us to keep an ear out for it again. And at that point we had no video proof to show anyone. And we've read that it could be loose pipes? So I also asked /r/Plumbing. But here are the videos. Maybe you guys have an idea?
Thank you!
