Question about alternative to a saddle valve

I have a question about using an alternative to a saddle valve.I've purchase a whole-house bypass humidifier for my furnace, and the installation seems fairly straightforward. However I have a question about the included saddle valve. I know that these things tend to leak over time, so I'd rather not use that. I'm also someone who while I grew up working in residential construction, I did house framing, not plumbing work (don't have the tools, experience or knowledge). The included saddle valve has a valve attached to allow me to attach the included water line to the humidifier. Is there an alternative that I can use that won't require me to sweat the copper lines? Perhaps a PEX valve that performs a similar function? I realize even this solution would require me to cut out a piece of the copper.
