Long story short, I was an hvac/r tech/installer years ago, but have since changed trades. The electrical outfit I'm now with has shown some interest in doing mini-split installs and I was tasked with running our first install.
Most everything came back to me quite quickly, but when it came time to change the sysyem things began to get a little fuzzy...
For reference: 3ton compressor, ruining four 6k heads. Approximately 80' of 3/8 and 1/4.
First mistake: I got my can of 410a ready, shook it and flipped it upside down. But I forgot to purge the air in line that would feed the 410a into the compressor. So I got a small bursts of air in the system.
Second mistake: I filled the system through the low side, rather than the liquid. I realized this after adding a considerable amount.
Third mistake: When filling I did large shots, rather than short, 3 second bursts.
Overall, the system is working. All of the heads are blowing cool. My concern comes from a noise at the compressor, a little chugging noise, sounding as though it is under/over charged. Based on my numbers I'm fairly close regarding charge.
I had read online that charging through the low side will cause the TXV to "gum" up and that it would need to run. For a while to "cook" off. I have no idea as to the validity oder this claim.
Thanks any advice. I was thrown to the wolves with this one, using equipment that is FAR different than what I was used to using...hopefully I'll come out unscathed.
