R22 evaporation coil is leaking... buy new HVAC?

I bought a house a half a year ago, and they threw in American Home Shield Insurance for free. Well turns out the r22 evaporation coil in the basement is leaking.

The tech came and said I should just replace the whole unit for $6200 with a R410A type system. He said the insurance will probably just cover the coil itself at most, but he was saying there would be other costs such as switching from r22 to r410... possibly some digging of pipes... Didn't really understand but that was his suggestion because if I end up spending $1000 to fix this coil, mine as well put that money towards a new system.

Is there truth to this $1000 cost i might incur because I stick with R22 coils?
