Possible to run return from basement to attic via solid metal trunks in stud wall?

3 ton zoned system...air handler is in attic. Is it possible to return from basement zone (approx. 650 sq. ft.) using solid trunks in only the space in walls (3.5 in framing)? Would two be sufficient? 2 story house. (attic is 3 levels away from basement).
