Hi all, aerospace manufacturing dude here, new to this forum! So I was in a new "modern" apartment the other day and saw a ductless ac unit for the first time. What I don't understand is how they hit their air changeover rates with these units. As I saw it the unit was taking air from the room and running it over the evaporator on the wall, it looked cool... but without vents I don't see how you could hit the ACH specs without counting the cfm of the evaporator towards your ACH. I don't understand how recirculating room air could count towards ACH,what am I not understanding? If there there ducts with a separate blower to supply the apartment with air, I don't see point of not using a central system. Maybe there are smaller ducts for the fresh air reqs, but it seems like cheating to count recirculated air towards ACH.
What am I not getting here... do ductless AC units CFM count toward ACH requirements? I'm sure I'm missing some crucial fact, but I just don't see how these things work!
Future thanks for enlightening me! And FYI this was a brand new building that was definitely up to code.
