Yet another "should I replace or not" post

So,

The house I am moving into had the furnace and A/C inspected and both are operating as expected.

Furnace
* Lennox G26Q3-50-3 (serial 5897E05058)
* Original to the house - 1997

A/C
* Goodman CK18-1B (serial 9704020916)
* Original to the house - 1997

The furnace from what I can find (and answered here) is a single stage, PSC, 92.4% AFUE and the A/C is a 10 SEER unit.

If they are both operating fine, what kind of savings could I expect to see with a new furnace and A/C? I'm assuming I'd get a 95% furnace and an 18+ SEER A/C.

Our electricity rates are as follows:

  • 7pm-7am - 8.7¢ kwh
  • 7am-11am - 13.2¢ kwh
  • 11am-5pm - 18¢ kwh
  • 5pm-7pm - 13.2¢ kwh

I set the tstat to 23 all year.

I know I'd see some comfort improvements, but would I really see a big monthly cost savings? If the payback was 5-7 years I'd probably do it.

Any help from the experts would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you.
