I don't know much about this stuff, but I need to replace my current furnace as I have a cracked heat exchange. Since both my furnace and AC are from the original build in 1988, I am replacing both. I have had multiple companies come in and quote different furnace/AC options. Main reason for the question is everyone quoted a different size for BTU's. I am wanting to go to a higher efficient furnace so that is what the quotes are showing.
Current - 75k BTU - Single Stage - 80% efficient
Company 1 - 60K BTU - Variable Speed/2 Stage - 95% efficient Company 2 - 70k BTU - Modulating Variable Speed/2 Stage - 98% efficient Company 3 -80k BTU - multiple speed/2 stage - 95% efficient
Also, Company 1 quoted an 80% efficient furnace that was a 70k BTU. I asked about the difference in size and they said the high efficient furnaces did not need to be as big.
I want to make sure I get the correct size and everything. I don't believe any company actually ran a Manual J from what I noticed.
The house is a single story, no basement - sits on a concrete slab. 1443 sq ft of finished space. Live in Nebraska.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
