My husband and I just moved into a home with a furnace that was installed in 1991. It just kicked the bucket and the Home Warranty company is offering us a buyout of $890 OR a Lennox ML193 with about $1000 we would be responsible for out of pocket.
We're trying to decide the relative merits of each plan but have next to no knowledge of HVAC and it seems like a very deep hole before I would actually be able to make an informed decision. I have some calls out to get estimates for something with higher efficiency and some air filtration (as I have bad allergies) but could use a little advice. We have a home that was built in 1868 and the insulation is poor, the windows are original (but do have storm windows). We do plan to invest in an Ecobee, but again, were waiting for the furnace to die. Any advice anyone might have would be tremendously helpful. I guess our question is should we do the buyout and get something higher efficiency since we'll already be having a difficult time heating (and we would like to be energy efficient) or should we just get the ML193? We plan to stay in this house long term.
