Our heat has been smelling like burnt plastic for 2 weeks.

We have an area in our living room that smells like burning plastic. It started randomly one day. We tried smelling the carpet, vents, electronics... the smell is not coming from any of those items. It seems to be "floating" if that makes any sense.

We called a heating & air company and they sent somebody out for $99. He checked out our furnace and wiring and confirmed nothing was wrong or out of the ordinary. Of course on that day since the heat wasn't on (warmer day), he couldn't smell it.

He also said he got a call from a woman that day complaining of the same issue too. He says the smell is most likely from "burning dust."

I can normally agree to that but we have had our heater on 80% of the time for 2.5 weeks now. The "burning dust" smell shouldn't have lasted this long since those normally happen when you first start up your furnace for the winter. So far nobody in the house seems to have any health issues, it's just more of an annoyance to our noses than anything. It makes sitting on the couch almost intolerable at times.

Do you guys have any suggestions as to what we should do? Anything is welcomed.

TL;DR Heat has burning plastic smell for 2 weeks. Furnace guy said everything's fine and it's just "burning dust."
