Typical Depth/Dimensions of space above office dropped/suspended ceilings?

Hi all, what are the typical dimensions of a suspended ceiling in an office building? Or the range (smallest you've seen vs. largest)?

This is a rule of thumb sizing exercise. I don't know anything about HVAC systems, installation, dropped ceilings, etc. This is for a school problem where I need to explain what we need to consider when building a load reduction system for an HVAC system and fit it into an office dropped ceiling space. For instance, can I put a 6ftx4ftx2ft metal box, that weighs 550lbs, in the typical office dropped ceiling?

This is what I've managed to find online so far - typical office dropped ceiling has metal railings spaced 2 feet apart where the ceiling tiles and lights will it. The dropped ceiling usually has at least 2 ft of space from the actual ceiling.

Help please! Thanks in advance!
