Hey guys,
Fairly HVAC knowledgeable just wanna double check I got this right.
Trane heat pump, 14 years old or so. Moved into house December. Heat always seemed kinda weak until AUX coil heat turned on but never had a heat pump before. Now in spring AC was cooling fine when mild but its getting hotter now and working longer and now I got ice on my outside pipe.
Turned off, ran fan, let it thaw, changed filter (it was pretty bad), opened one register that was blocked. Cools fine for a while then builds up ice again and starts cooling worse.
Went to air handler. Evaporator looks actually quite clean. Lots of moisture along the pipe to the outside. Blower fan looked pretty clean too.
So I believe my airflow is fine and my problem is low freon. Anything left to check before I call a pro to recharge it and try to find the leak? If its the coil will they recharge it without repairing it (dont want to spend that much on an old system that needs replaced soon)?
Its r22.
Thanks!
