Is it possible this one turn of a screw fixed my AC?

My AC has been acting funny this season. The biggest problem was that it wouldn't stop cooling the house even after getting to the set temp. I'm used to a swing of a degree or two, but this was more like five or ten (and it probably would have kept going if I hadn't noticed turned it off each time)!

I tried thinking through what was new this season vs last and realized my HVAC company had installed a new thermostat.

We tested the unit itself and it passed all tests. However, we noticed one of the screws that hold the wires in place on the tstat bracket on the wall was loose. Well maybe it was a couple of screws, but I'm pretty sure it was only one.

After tightening it a tiny bit, I never had another issue again! It's been quite a while now, so I'm hoping everything's good to go, but I keep thinking.... there's no way it should be this easy. I'm thinking it's all gonna come crashing down on me now and I'll start waking up with booger-cicles again! Ha ha!

Seriously though, I'm really curious: could tightening a couple of wires really have solved this problem? How so?
