Hey all, Residential tech here, been doing the gas/heating side for a few years while getting some hands on with the A/C side of things. This season I'm starting my apprenticeship and need my own tools.
Just to start it'll be maintenances so I need a wet bulb thermometer, clamp thermometer and a set of gauges.
(I have a set of the 2 valve yellow jacket analog gauges that I'm going to use for R-22 and want to pick up a set for 410a).
The company is letting me put it on the account and pay it off over a few months so it gives me a bit of leeway with cost since I can spread it out but don't want to go overboard.
Cheapest way is:
yellow jacket 2valve Titan analog gauges and hoses with shutoffs for $260 Clamp on thermometer for my UEI multimeter $? Testo 410-2 wet bulb & anemometer (this does have the anemometer so it kills 2 birds with one stone instead of just a wet bulb thermometer) $about 150
So about $500CAD
OR
Testo 550 digital gauges that comes with the double temp clamps to do superheat and subcool at the same time $500 Testo 410-2 anemometer/wet bulb $150
so about $650
One of the techs recommended I think it's a Cooper temp/humidity sensor. Comes in a blue case, has a bunch of different plug in attachments to read wet bulb, dry bulb, humidity, etc. A few guys have worked with have it and its does everything I need temperature wise but it's $450, however besides replacing a few probes over the years most of the techs have had them for 10+ years with no issues.
The digital gauges have all the bells and whistles but if something happens to them I have nothing, would also need to buy a clamp to use for R-22. If I stick to the analog gauges it saves me a bit of money, the extra accessories can be used for 22 and 410a and if something breaks it's just one small thing I need to replace.
Anybody any advice? Anybody use the equipment listed and either likes or hates it?
Any input would be great!
