Help with Electric Furnace Please.

I have a Nortron 21D23 furnace. It has been in place for 4.5 years. It is fed by a 125 amp dual pole breaker. Air conditioner is present but not being used and breaker isn't turned on to the unit. I reside in Manitoba Canada. Still need heat overnight right now even though daytime temps keep the house at a fairly nice temp.

Recently the breaker (in the electrical panel for the furnace) has started to trip after the furnace kicks in the heat. The first time this happened (3 weeks ago) it was incorrectly attributed to a power bump when the furnace kicked on and a excessively dirty air filter. After this, it ran fine for the past 3 weeks till yesterday.

Yesterday when i set the heat selector on the thermostat to heat it ran for maybe 5 minutes, then the Electrical panel breaker tripped. I took the cover off of the furnace and noticed some excessive animal hair on the motor assembly itself. Believing it could be related, I cleaned that and verified the filter was still okay. I also checked the connections inside the furnace to verify they were secure and no signs of melting or corrosion or anything. After the breaker was turned back on it ran several hours without issue. When i woke up this morning, the breaker had tripped again.

I have examined the manual but haven't found anything that I believe is of relevance. My model however doesn't have the front mounted breakers referenced in the manual. Maybe the model was revised after my unit was purchased.

Any ideas on where I can begin? I managed to break my multi-meter within the last week so I guess maybe the first step would be to replace that. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thanks
