So after doing my routine seasonal maintenance (remove fan, hose fins inside to out), the outside condenser is short cycling. On first power up, it goes about 5 seconds and then kills itself. It then jumps into a 3 second loop.
A few fun facts: - I discovered my fur children have been expressing their claim to this condenser unit like it's an oil rich country. Upon cleaning, many fins (lower corners) washed away. Copper lines are exposed. One particular section has discoloration.
Had a tech out yesterday, they hooked up their gauges and said it had a leak (that was the extent). Left me with a few options:
- Try and fix the leak, but not recommended.
- Replace the entire system ($9k). They said replacing just the condenser is an option, but not recommended because of the phase out of R22.
Does this seem correct an assessment?
Unit is a 5Ton Lennox (R22) installed in 2006.
