My house has an extension with a separate heating system. Same furnace as the main house, but independently operated. We tend to close it off when we're not in there, and lower the temperature down to 55° or so, only raising it when we go back in. We raise it to 68°, which is what we keep the rest of the house at. Is this efficient? Would it be more efficient to keep the extension on a higher temperature, so the furnace doesn't have to work so hard to heat it up when we do go in there? Some days we are in there all day, but from time to time we leave the extension closed off for the day, so it's a big unpredictable. Thanks.
