Hvac career.

Ive decided to go into the hvac trade after my first 5 miserable years of post high school wasting my life away by trying to go to college and doing other things on the side to figure out what I want to do for the rest of my life. Obviously none of it worked out.

Next year, hopefully in February, I’m starting an hvac program at a local tech school. (In hopes I’m not too late due to waiting lists and such) There’s 3 classes I have to take over the course of a year 1/2 + a journeyman’s test. I’ll also have an opportunity to get the EPA cert during the first class.

I’ve talked to some hvac guys that have worked on the building I currently work at, before we opened, (I’m a maintenance tech at a hotel) and they both said hvac is a very good career to get in to, plus the good pay and high demand.

Am I doing the best thing by going to tech school and learning fundamentals, safety, and other skills plus certifications, and maybe having better opportunities to work for good companies through schooling, or should I find an apprenticeship/helper job? I’ve heard from people that both are good routes. Depending on the persons relationships I guess.
