Nordyne furnace - adding ground wire to C terminal

On a no-heat this week at work - Gibson/Nordyne 90% furnace. Flashing fault code was pressure switch stuck closed. I ended up changing the pressure switch, which didn't work, but I couldn't find anything else the matter. After it was in, the igniter would glow, then the gas valve would open and shut, and would fault back to PS stuck closed again. I called a senior guy, who ended up having me add a wire from C on the board terminal to the cabinet after taking a look at things. Furnace started and stayed on with no problems after this was done. Anybody run into this before / have an explanation for why this worked? The 12-pin molex on the board had a ground wire to the cabinet already. I'm totally stumped why this would solve any issue.
