Just moved into a new (but quite old) home. Had a supposedly well-respected local company out to inspect the central heating (Payne PG9MAB high-efficiency gas furnace, from 2010) and recommended some work.
I'd love to get a gut-check from you all on whether this quote is in the reasonable ballpark for the work being done, before I go ahead and book the service with them.
The furnace is in an easily-accessible crawlspace.
The needed work: * 8" duct leads to 6" duct with no reducer. Install a 8">6" reducer & seal/insulate. * Supply plenum not sealed at bottom;, leaking warm air into crawlspace. Seal and insulate. * 2" PVC flue pipe leaking water. Replace 3ft of 2" PVC pipe & coupling.
They estimate 8 hrs labor and the total quote is around $1500. I'm in a very high cost of living urban area in the US.
Does this seem reasonable or not reasonable?
