Hello All,
I recently had a Lennox system installed. It included a new compressor and air handler. When it was installed I was told that it included a dehumidify feature where we could set a desired humidity percentage and the system would try to achieve that in the house.
Yesterday, my wife and I noticed a smell that reminded me of an electrical fire. I noticed that the system was in dehumidify mode (We had the cool on and the thermostat was a degree or two under where we wanted it so the A/C wasn't on at this time). I noticed warm air coming out of the floor registers. I shut the system off and turned off the breaker for the air handler. I still noticed a faint amount of warm air coming through the registers after I shut the system off. This lasted about 15 minutes and then the smell went away.
We called a technician from the company that installed the system. He came out and could not find any issues with the system. He also explained how the dehumidify cycle was supposed to work. He said that the blower in the air handler runs on a low speed and should send cool air throughout the house to reduce the humidity.
My question is, if the system was trying to dehumidify the house, and it could not reduce the humidity, could it switch on the heating system to help dehumidify the area? That could explain the heat coming from the registers and the smell could be dust burning off the system since we haven't had the heat on yet.
