15 Year old Lennox Unit with an Exploded Capacitor that Was Smoking.

Hi there, new to this subreddit. I have a simple question for you all.

Can I replace the capacitor and the fan motor and still be able to use this system without worrying that it will catch fire?

Story: We had a technician check out the unit while I was not home, my mother and sister were. From what I was told the technician had told them the whole unit is toast because something got burned inside and that turning on the unit may burn the house down because there is a gas line near or plugged into it. They disconnected the main power to the unit and that was that.

I decided to check out the unit to see if we were getting Dicked around. I look behind the cover and see that the capacitor has a big hole and is charred along with the wires to the fan motor as if it caught fire. The rest of the unit looked fine.

Just wondering if we have to buy a new unit or should we be fine having it repaired?

Thanks
