Amazed a new thermostat could cause AC/humidity problems

Swapped out a thermostat this weekend after realizing the Honeywell model I had previously (RTH6450D1009) combined a narrow temperature threshold and no regard to AC CPH. One of the Amazon reviewers mentioned it looking back, but I wasn't paying attention to that buying it this past winter. Heating you can set CPH, but cooling it has no advanced option.

A couple of downsides. First my condenser was running for 3-5 minutes and coming back on every 5-10 minutes. It seemed like the thermostat wanted to hold the set point to within like 1/2-degree. Humidity was high and I can only imagine the compressor didn't really enjoy triggering to frequently.

Ended up swapping in a spare non-programmable model that has a CPH setting, set it to 2 and now the unit finally runs for more than 10 minutes at a time and humidity levels in the house have finally started to normalize. Looking across the "retail" versus the "pro" Honeywell models, missing CPH adjustment appears to be the common trend. Why would they do that crap?
