The inside fan works, the compressor/fan work... but won't turn on. I replaced the contactor (it wasn't brand new, just a spare one my neighbor had) today, and it started working fine! cool air and running awesome for a few hours. After it reached the temperature we set at the thermostat it shuts down like it should but when it tried to recool the house the compressor/fan weren't turning on.. Weird right?
The capacitor is fine, no bulges or anything.. A bit old and rusty, don't know if that could be the issue though. I think it has to do with whatever tells the contactor to turn on.. Maybe electrical? Thermostat (Only see 1 wire going into the thermostat) is really old maybe thats it? Touching the contactor button will make the fan/compressor run of course.
Before I replaced the contactor today, i had the same issue. Worked for a day, than stopped working no compressor/fan turning on.
I don't have a voltmeter, think im going to buy one and play around with that maybe its faulty wiring?
Really looking for an experts opinion, maybe this is a common problem and someone knows the answer and save me hours of trouble shooting.
Thanks!
