I am in a house with two HVAC systems, gas heat and electric AC, that are as old as my 20 year house. The downstairs unit runs like a champ with no issues. The upstairs unit has had all kinds of problems. We've had the evaporator coil and the air handler replaced, and the compressor is 9 years old.
Currently, we were told we have a leak in the upstairs unit. Our AC guy couldn't find the leak so he put the fix-a-flat type of stuff to seal the leak. That worked until today.
My question is should we find this leak before we even go down the road of replacing the unit(s)? What's the point of getting a new unit if the leak is in the wall or something? Should we pay the money to find the leak first?
