Is there anyway a portable ac unit would give off co?

Probably a stupid question, but wanting to be safe. Just bought a 8000btu portable ac unit and I'm just wondering if there's any way it would give off co? It runs on r410a and the exhaust goes outside. Another question, why do portable ac units need venting? Thanks
