Posting for a friend. Last Wednesday she had a new Lennox Merit furnace and AC installed. The company that did the install was generally regarded as being good by the community. However with the install my friend definitely got the B-team installers as their workmanship was shoddy pretty much all the way around. Most of the shoddyness was not wrong, just not right. Amateur brazing, poorly sealed ductwork, chewed up armaflex, etc. After a bit of complaining, most that could be fixed was.
However the AC never worked properly. The original techs said that the unit came with a refrigerant charge for 15' of line set but they used 25' and (paraphrased) "we'll see if that works". First call back (same tech plus a "supervisor") says that it should be working and didn't find any problems and left. 2nd call back after the system ran most of the evening with no change new tech says the system barely has a charge and that the wrong valve was installed.
I wasn't there when the tech said that, and I'm being relayed information through my friend so I'm not positive what exactly was wrong with the valve. Only thing I can think of was it was a R22 TXV instead of a R410a. Being a holiday weekend, whatever the right valve is won't be available from Lennox until at least Tuesday.
The system currently is off as the 2nd call back tech said operating the system with the wrong valve could damage the compressor. The system had been ran off and on for a day and a half at that point. Is there ANY chance of damage to the compressor at this point? My friend is OCD with all the issues her anxiety, just wants a new system if there is any chance the existing system is damaged.
